In Mizoram’s Champhai area, Assam Rifles troops recovered a large cache of foreign-origin cigarettes worth over Rs 23 crore.
On Friday, the Serchhip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles recovered foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 23, 40, 00 in Zokhawthar in Champhai district, under the supervision of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).
According to a statement from the Assam Rifles (East), a squad of eight Assam Rifles carried out an operation based on specific information. The illicit products were seized by the Champhai Customs Department for further legal action.
Smuggling of cigarettes from other countries is a major source of concern in Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border.
Meanwhile, legal action has been taken in this case, and further investigation is continuing.
