Gyanvapi row: Hindus claim Shivling in Mosque Reservoir; the Muslim Says Fountain

A Hindu lawyer stated that a Shivling had been discovered inside a wazukhana or pond on the mosque complex after the three-day Gyanvapi Masjid survey ended on Monday.

The mosque committee, on the other hand, dismissed the claim, claiming that the Shivling in question was actually a fountain.

On Monday, the Varanasi district court ordered the location where the Hindu petitioner in the case, Sohan Lal Arya, claimed the committee discovered a Shivling at the complex to be sealed. The assertion was hotly challenged by a member of the mosque management committee, who said the object was part of the “wuzukhana’s” water fountain mechanism.

The Mosque sits near the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple, and a group of women has petitioned the local court for permission to worship daily before the idols on the mosque’s exterior walls.

The DM had stated the day before that the survey work would begin at 8 a.m. on Monday and that all persons involved should be there.
