Today is Sir Julian Sorell Huxley an English evolutionary biologist, eugenicist, and internationalist’s birth anniversary, 22 June. He was a proponent of natural selection. Also a leading figure in the mid-twentieth century modern synthesis. Died in 1975 on 14 February.
He was the first Director of UNESCO, and also a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund. The term “New Systematics” was coined by him in 1940.
In his early days, he faces challenges with the nervous breakdown following the same year 1914 his brother Trevener has it suffered from same mental illness and both were living at The Hermitage, a small private nursing home for their treatment. However, his brother committed suicide whilst there. He lost his mother as well in 1908 six years earlier when he was just a 21-year-old. Julian’s father remarried a woman named Rosalind Bruce who was the same age as him.
Despite all the odds and difficulties in his life, his achievements were remembered to this day. He and his wife Juliette Huxley had given scientists to the nation, Anthony Huxley (1920-1992) and another son name (Francis Huxley (1923-2016) were scientists.
