IMD: Extremely heavy rainfall, floods likely over west and central India till August 9

A “orange” category alert has also been put in place to prevent any calamity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of exceptionally heavy rainfall over west and central India from August 7–9.

The weather service added that a low-pressure zone is likely to develop over the north-west and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal around Sunday. The monsoon trough is active and lying south of its typical position, and will continue to stay there over the next 4-5 days.

On Saturday, widespread rain with sporadic heavy falls, thunderstorms, and lightning are very likely to hit Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema. This is also very likely to happen in Telangana, coastal and north interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, and Mahe until August 9, as well as over south interior Karnataka from August 8 to 9. On August 8 and 9, Telangana saw sporadic, extremely heavy rainfall.

Up until August 9, it is extremely possible that Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan, and Goa will have widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorm/lightning.
