In Assam, more than 4,000 schools were closed due of Covid
Primary through upper secondary teacher numbers in the nation decreased from 96.96 lakh in 2020–2021 to 95.07 lakh in 2021–2022. According to the most recent statistics, Assam's teacher population fell from 3.7 lakh to 3.52 lakh, representing a 10% decrease nationwide. The remaining NE states have also seen an unequal dip in the number of teachers, with Manipur experiencing the second-largest drop, from 45,221 to 42,684. The decrease has been from 24,102 to 23,707 in Arunachal; from 56,150 to 55,160 in Meghalaya; from 23,688 to 23,366 in Mizoram; from 31,805 to 31,402 in Nagaland; and from 36,534 to 36,433 in Tripura.
Between April 2021 and March 2022, more than 4,000 basic through secondary schools, the most of which were run by private organisations, closed their doors in Assam. This is a result of Covid-19, according to the school ministry. According to the ministry's Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) report, which was released earlier this week, the pandemic's effects resulted in the closing of 20,000 schools nationwide during the same time period.
The report stated that "the drop in the number of schools is primarily attributable to the closure of the schools." The government primary schools in Assam affected by the pandemic have been merged with larger institutions.
The state government's policy of merging government schools, according to sources in the state education department, has also contributed to an observable decrease in the number of schools in the state. All of the northeastern states have reported a decrease in the number of schools. In Arunachal Pradesh, the number of schools decreased from 3,675 to 3,603 during the course of a year, while in Meghalaya, the total decreased from 14,694 to 14,600. The decrease has been from 3,925 to 3,911 in Mizoram, from 4,653 to 4,617 in Manipur, from 2,719 to 2,718 in Nagaland, and from 4,934 to 4,929 in Tripura.
The number of teachers both nationally and at the state level has decreased as a result of the school closures.
