Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, who surrendered to a Patiala court on Friday in connection with a 1988 road rage case. Sidhu skipped dinner on Friday, according to a prison officer, claiming that he had already eaten. He did, however, take a pill. He won’t be served anything special. “If a doctor recommends a particular meal, he can get it from the jail canteen or prepare it himself,” the officer explained.
He will earn between 40 and 60 rupees per day during his one-year sentence imposed by the Supreme Court. Sidhu will have to work according to the jail manual because he was condemned to a long sentence. He will, however, receive training for the first three months. An unskilled convict receives 40 dollars per day, whereas a skilled inmate receives 60 dollars per day, according to the jail manual.
In the same jail, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia is being held on a drug charge. However, their barracks are unique.
Sidhu suffers from medical ailments like embolism and has a liver ailment, according to news agency PTI, which cited Sidhu’s media advisor Surinder Dalla.
Senior counsel HPS Verma, who accompanied Sidhu to the court, said, “He surrendered before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Amit Malhan.”
Senior counsel A M Singhvi, arguing for Sidhu, was told by a high court bench of justices A M Khanwilkar and J B Pardiwala that the one-year rigorous jail verdict had been passed by a special bench, and that he might file the plea and mention it before the Chief Justice.
