Tripura: BSF havildar shot dead by NLFT militants on Friday

According to police in Agartala, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants shot and killed a Border Security Force (BSF) havildar on Friday.

Havildar Grijesh Kumar, 53, was injured when NLFT cadres opened fire on a BSF patrolling party at Simana Two near the India-Bangladesh border in north Tripura district. After being taken to an Agartala hospital, he passed away from his wounds.

The BSF troopers attacked back, and the NLFT extremists immediately fled deep inside the mountainous forest of the neighbouring country after firing from Bangladesh territory, the spokesman told IANS.

In order to take further action, a sizable contingent of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) under the command of Inspector General of Police Arindam Nath and senior BSF officials has flocked to the mountainous regions.

The deceased havildar, a citizen of Madhya Pradesh, was a member of the 145th BSF battalion.
