The arrested Islamic State suicide bomber who intended to attack India’s governing elite for “insult to Prophet” has been granted access by the Indian security agencies after they requested it from their Russian colleagues, the FSB.
Mashrabkon Azamov, an Uzbek national, was seized by the Russian Federal Security Service for intending to attack India after being recruited by one Yusuf Tajiki through Islamic radicalisation in April 2022 into the ultra-conservative Sunni terrorist organisation, Islamic State. He entered Russia to travel to India, according to his confession, after receiving specialised suicide bomber training in Turkey, a haven for Islamic militants. It was planned for “certain folks” in India to supply the logistics and explosives for the targeted attack.
A Russian FSB interrogation report on 30-year-old Azamov has been requested by Indian agencies in order to discover Islamic State-affiliated modules which provided weapons and logistics to the Uzbek national. India, meanwhile, has been on high alert after BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma made comments about the Prophet during a TV debate. He claimed he was radicalized in Turkey as well as through the Telegram online platform for targeting India.
