On March 21, Avani Lekhara, an Indian daughter, received the Padma Shri award in the category of sports. At the Tokyo Paralympics, Avani made history by becoming India’s first woman to win a gold medal. In the 10m air rifle standings, she took gold.
She was paralysed in a vehicle accident when she was 11 years old, but it did not deter her determination to succeed. Avani became a sporting phenomenon across India in a short time. Avani is only 20 years old and has plenty of time to excel in this sport.
The young lady is inspiring young girls in Rajasthan and throughout India to pursue their aspirations. She is from Rajasthan and is currently studying law. Given her tenacity, she will be just as successful in the legal field as she has been in sports. She demonstrates that nothing is truly impossible if you have the willpower and desire to succeed.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Avani won gold in the 10m air rifle standing and bronze in the 50m rifle 3 positions.
