Rahul Bajaj, the former chairman of the Bajaj Group, died on Saturday at Ruby Hospital in Pune. He was 83 years old, Bajaj had been unwell for some time. He is survived by two sons Rajiv Bajaj and Sanjiv Bajaj, and a daughter Sunaina Kejriwal.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated in a condolence letter that Bajaj would be cremated with full state honours, and that the country had lost a nationalist industrialist with his death. “Full state honours will be performed on him,” the CM added in his message.
Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari shared the news and expressed his condolences on Twitter. He said that Bajaj, who ran the company for five decades, was a pivotal figure in the industry. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, expressed his condolences on Bajaj’s death. “The death of Rahul Bajaj, the Bajaj Group’s Chairman Emeritus, is a loss to India’s corporate community. “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the group,” Chouhan tweeted.
The President of India also mourned the Industrialists death
In 1968, he became the Chief Executive Officer of Bajaj Auto, and in 1972, he was promoted to Managing Director. From 1979 to 1980, he was President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). From 1986 to 1989, he served as Chairman of the old Indian Airlines, and from 1999 to 2000, he served as President of the CII for the second time.
He was also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2010. He stepped down as Chairman of Bajaj Auto in April 2021. He was, however, named Chairman Emeritus of the company for a five-year term.
