Inspiring: Bengaluru doctor runs 3 km to beat traffic to perform critical surgery
Bengaluru is famed for its traffic, where traveling simple distances can take an agonizingly long time. But the tale of a physician who made an unconventional choice to save the life of his patient is turning out to be a motivational one.
The Sarjapur-Marathalli traffic gridlock prevented Dr. Govind Nandakumar, a gastrointestinal surgeon at Manipal Hospitals, from performing an urgent laparoscopic gallbladder surgery on August 30.
Dr. Nandakumar abandoned his car and rushed three kilometers to complete the necessary surgery because he realized that if he didn’t, the female patient may be put in danger.
As soon as he entered the operating room, Dr. Nandakumar’s team—which was prepared to put the patient under anesthesia—started the procedure. In order to do the treatment right away, the doctor quickly changed into surgical garb. The procedure went well, and the patient received a prompt discharge.
In the IT hub, recent heavy rains have led to waterlogging and traffic bottlenecks. Videos of stalled cars and pedestrians attempting to walk on a long stretch of the Bengaluru-Mysuru motorway were widely shared on social media.
