Madhya Pradesh CM holds urgent meeting, aerial survey of the worst flood affected areas
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, discusses the flood situation in Vidisha today. On Tuesday, the district hit by the recent rains was also the subject of an aerial survey by the chief minister.
Devastation was caused in several areas of the state by the region’s heavy rain. Since there has been a lot of rain in the previous 24 hours, Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called an urgent meeting this morning with cabinet ministers and senior officials to discuss the flood situation there.
All major and minor rivers have received more water than they can hold. Residents of the catchment areas were suffering. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), around 2,300 individuals have been relocated to safer areas, and rescue efforts by the NDRF, SDRF, and the appropriate district police teams are still ongoing in various sections of the state.
In Vidisha district, where a flood-like situation developed owing to severe rain for the last 24 hours, at least 18 shelters have been set up and 1,300 people have been relocated to safer locations. Rescue activities were being carried out by boating crews.
In at least five locations throughout Vidisha, immediate airlifting of people was required. The Indian Air Force (IAF) agreed to send two mid helicopters at the state government’s request.
