A 15-year-old who was sexually abused by her father multiple times for six years passed away after committing suicide. According to Hindustan Times reports, the victim consumed poison on July 31, which caused multiple organ failure and ultimately resulted in her death. On August 3, she was immediately admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. When her condition became critical, she was transferred to another private hospital.
She received dialysis at the hospital to treat numerous kidney failures, and on August 18 she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, where she passed away around 9:30 PM on Sunday.
According to the co-chair of a public joint action committee (JAC) established to pursue justice for the girl, the victim’s father had sexually assaulted her numerous times during the previous six years. She consumed poison and stayed at home for three days without receiving any treatment since she was unable to handle the trauma.
Under section 305 of the Indian Penal Code (abetting a child’s suicide) and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act (sexual assault), a has been filed against the accused in this regard. The accused was then hauled into custody on August 5 after being apprehended the day before. According to reports, an enraged crowd also reportedly damaged the accused resident after becoming aware of the situation.
