Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma supports Hindi, says learning any language is beneficial

Union Minister Amit Shah recently announced the introduction of Hindi as a required course in all Indian states. Meanwhile, several Meghalaya political stalwarts were opposed to the concept.

However, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma chimed in on the Hindi language debate on Tuesday, saying that learning a new language, whether Hindi or English, had “benefits.” Sangma praised the Centre’s Hindi drive, calling it “very positive” and claiming that it will benefit young people in the country, particularly in terms of national employment.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister stressed the need of both English and Hindi on the global level. English is significant in terms of employment on the global stage, Hindi is spoken by the greatest part of the population in India, which is a benefit to our youth. There is no reason why our children should not learn Hindi as well as English “Sangma contributed to the conversation.

“Learning Hindi, as well as English as a language, has proven to be beneficial to me. I don’t see why learning a new language, whether it’s Hindi, English, or even Japanese, shouldn’t be a priority. It is, in fact, something quite positive “Conrad Sangma expressed his thoughts.

In addition, the Chief Minister stated that Meghalaya had not yet received any notification requiring the use of Hindi in the state. While the native tongue should always take precedence, he clarified that pupils should also be encouraged to learn Hindi and English at the same time.
