Chean Lachaim D. Shira, a 14-year-old student of class IX from Casarina Public School in Tura in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills, has earned two gold medals for the nation at the just-concluded Bhutan International Taekwondo Championships, 2022, which has caused great pride and joy for the entire region. Shira, 14, has been receiving instruction from former gold medallist Eugene Marakv since he was a child.
Shira won five gold and six silver medals at the National Sikkim Taekwondo Championship held in Sikkim earlier this year in the months of June and July. He received a citation from the Association for his outstanding performance as well.
Young Shira said that his goal is to help his nation win a gold medal at the Olympics in taekwondo when questioned. He plans to keep competing in competitions to gain more experience in the sport. Shira lives in Tura with his grandparents and mother.
