Meghalaya: Violence gripped Shillong in protest rally against unemployment; people, media, vehicles attacked

During the demonstration against unemployment from Motphran to the Fire brigade, members of the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo People FKJGP assaulted innocent bystanders, unleashing panic on Shillong city. The attacks began as soon as the rally began to march on the GS Road leading to Khyndailad. From the front, it appeared to be just another rally, but as they passed by, numerous members of the group wearing masks kicked and assaulted onlookers and others stuck in the traffic.

The panic persisted and intensified close to the Dhankheti intersection, emboldened by the police's inaction and the authorities' seeming lack of attempts. The brawl resulted in numerous injuries to people. Although there hasn't been any official comment on the incident yet, social media is flooded with citizen criticism of the occurrence. Where is the rule of law, they wonder? what the government is doing?

According to ST, a local daily's reporter, U Mawphor, was also assaulted for recording the incident; in the meantime, store owners closed their doors and people were seen scurrying for protection.

The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo people (FKJGP) organised against unemployment protest in Shillong, Meghalaya that descended into violence today. The rioting in Shillong, Meghalaya, reportedly also caused damage to many vehicles.

Even when the demonstration took a regrettable turn when police cars were destroyed and violence broke out amid escalating tensions, loud slogans rang across Shillong's streets. According to reports, some protesters went on the rampage and attacked bystanders and a non-tribal tempo driver.
