Mithali Raj, a legend in India’s women’s cricket, set a world record when she stepped out for toss versus West Indies in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2022 match on Saturday. Mithali led the Indian team in a Women’s World Cup match for the 24th time, setting a new World Record.
Except for Mithali, no other captain in women’s cricket has ever led an international side in a World Cup match on 24 occasions.
Mithali, 39, led her country to 14 triumphs, eight losses, and one no-result game in 24 World Cup games.
Mithali joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistani legend Javed Miandad in becoming only the third cricketer and the first woman to appear in six World Cups.
In addition, legendary India pacer Jhulan Goswami(39) on Saturday became the all-time leading wicket-taker in the Women’s World Cup’s history, marking yet another milestone in her stellar 22-year career.
Breaking the record held by Australia’s Lynette Fullston, she accomplished the milestone by dismissing Anisa Mohammed of the West Indies.
