AAP MLA Atishi presents Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi Model of governance at UNGA on their contributions to the overall vision, goals, and targets of achieving the ‘New Urban Agenda, UNGA meeting. As she mention on the speech that all the nation has gathered from different cities and countries but face common challenges how to provide citizens high-quality services while providing equity, ecological sustainability and fiscal prudence. From the early 90s, there has been a growing belief that the provision of water, healthcare, education to all the citizens is far too expensive and the governments that provide these services to the citizens end up going into debt.
Providing basic facilities to people challenges faces by local bodies. Directing on budget constrains was one of the main points of her address. She said the city’s total budget has increased from 300 billion in 2005 to 750 billion in 2020 while the per capita income is three times higher than the rest of the country and the state GDP has increased 150 percent in the last decade
The leader of APP present the transformation brought about in Delhi, by the Arvind Kejriwal government, before the UN General Assembly. On the ‘Delhi Model’ which can provide insights for solving problems faced by many countries across the world.
She states to UNGA that “Delhi is the only state government in the country that does not have a fiscal deficit. The Arvind Kejriwal government has shown that it can provide high-quality public service, and yet be responsible.”
“A moment of pride for India. Delhi and AAP make Indians proud. The world is now looking up to Delhi for solutions in many areas of urban governance. We all will learn from each other to make the world a better place,” Kejriwal wrote on Twitter expressing it by re-tweeting a post by Atishi containing her speech at the UNGA.
