Suspension of mobile internet and data services in seven districts of Meghalaya has been prolonged until 10:30 am on Saturday.
An upper-level official has announced that the suspension of mobile internet and data services in seven districts of Meghalaya has been prolonged until 10:30 am on Saturday.
The Meghalaya government has temporarily suspended mobile internet/data services for 48 hours starting at 10.30 am on Tuesday in the districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, and Eastern West Khasi Hills as a precaution following a shooting incident on Tuesday early morning at Mukroh village on the Meghalaya-Assam border that claimed 6 lives.
Meghalaya's home secretary, C.V.D. Diengdoh, stated in a notification that the shooting incident in the West Jaintia Hills district's Mukroh hamlet has the potential to disturb public peace and tranquility and endanger public safety throughout the seven districts.
"WhatsApp and other messaging apps as well as social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are likely to be used to transmit information through images, videos, and text, which could seriously disrupt law and order. Police Headquarters has received reports of burning and damage to vehicles with Assam registration in several Shillong neighbourhoods and other places in the Jaintia Hills " the notification read.
