Dharavi, Mumbai

The Adani Group won the redevelopment bid for Dharavi, one of the biggest slums in the world, and will shortly begin construction. After almost twenty years of stumbling and obstacles, this is the first step in the right direction for the community's development. After assuming office, the new Maharashtra government ordered the reopening of the tendering process after the previous administration had canceled it due to the railway department's desire to acquire land.

One of the initial six fishing communities to establish in the area, it was situated on the outskirts of the island metropolis. Over time, a vast number of immigrants from many countries settled in and around the area, which is today home to the largest slum in the world and a thriving metropolis.

The locality's development was reportedly proposed by Mukhesh Mehta, an architect by trade, as early as 1997. But the process began around five years later, and in 2004, the state government approved a plan to develop the area. According to the concept, the developer will keep a portion of the site to provide cross-subsidies to outside buyers. Additionally, the state designated it as an undeveloped area and authorized the establishment of a unique development authority for the area.

Whereas the real estate division of the Adani Group submitted a bid for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project with a price tag of Rs. 5069 Cr. The Naman Group failed not meet the technical bidding requirements, and DLF Ltd. presented an offer of Rs 2025 Cr.

One of the largest development projects undertaken by a government organization in the nation, the project is anticipated to cost over Rs 23,000 crore.
In the event that the construction and restoration project is carried out, housing services can be built for the local residents who qualify. As stated in the bidding procedure, they will be furnished with all requisite amenities and infrastructure.
