Shortly after officials in the Ministry of Health revealed that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG 2022) will be held on May 21, medical aspirants began campaigning on Twitter on Thursday to postpone the exam.
Several aspirants took to Twitter to run the hashtag campaign #PostponeNEETPG ModiJi, #urging PM Modi to postpone NEET PG 2022, citing the ineligibility of 5,000 interns to write the exam due to a delay in the NEET PG 2021 counselling procedure. The hashtag began trending on Twitter with over 125,000 tweets just hours after the virtual campaign began.
Several doctors’ organizations have asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in their cases. The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) submitted a petition at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, requesting that NEET PG 2022 be postponed. On May 4, a group of doctors petitioned the Supreme Court for a stay of execution.
After writing many letters to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the doctors’ associations decided to launch an online campaign. According to doctors, the time between counseling and examination is relatively short.
The request to defer the exam comes after last year’s counselling was postponed due to the Supreme Court’s ongoing OBC reservation cases. According to the argument, medical students who were hoping to be admitted in the previous academic year were unable to prepare for the NEET-PG 2022 exam due to the delay.
