NJ Wharton State Forest Wildfire Burns At least 11,00 Of Acres, Non-Injuries were reported

New Jersey, Wharton State Forest wildfire burns spread and covered in fire reached at least 11,000 acres in size and is 50% contained. Firefighters are battling a wildfire in Washington Township, Burlington County, NJ. So far it’s reached 100 acres.

Containment is increasing, though the acreage burned will also likely increase. Wildfires aren’t uncommon in NJ, but this is a large one, as for reference NJ averages 7000 acres burnt per year in wildfires.

The Mullica River Fire in New Jersey may see some activity today due to heat and burn operations. Local resources have told me the box is now closer to 15,000 acres. As of now, there are 0 reported injuries from the Wharton State Forest-Mullica River Fire. The NJ Forest Fire Service and all the volunteer fire departments from Atlantic Co, Burl Co, and Ocean Co were working to fight this wildfire.

NJ Environmental Commissioner Shawn LaTourette says Wharton State Forest Fire could be the biggest in 15 years. Believe that this was not caused naturally. The exact cause is not known yet.
