Omar Abdullah slams “The Kashmir Files” for false information
Omar Abdullah, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has slammed Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files,’ accusing the director of lying in the film about the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1990.
“It should be stated whether this is a documentary or a film by the creators.” If this is a documentary, it is self-evident that everything depicted is accurate. “However, the filmmakers claim that it is a true fact,” he remarked during a press conference in Kulgam.
“In the movie ‘The Kashmir Files,’ many false things are portrayed. Farooq Abdullah wasn’t the chief minister when the Kashmiri Pandits left the valley. In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Jagmohan was the governor. “The BJP supported VP Singh’s government at the Centre,” Abdullah stated.
“How come VP Singh’s government and the BJP were not featured in the film?” Playing with facts isn’t a good idea. The assassination of Kashmiri Pandits is something we strongly condemn. But, according to the former chief minister, “didn’t Kashmiri Muslims and Sikhs end up dead?”
Abdullah later reaffirmed his statement on Twitter. “The agony and sorrow of 1990 and subsequent years cannot be undone. The way Kashmiri Pandits’ sense of security was robbed from them and they were forced to flee the valley is a stain on our Kashmiriyat tradition. We must find solutions to bridge rather than widen gaps.” says the former CM
