Elon Musk, a billionaire businessman, has said that the much sought-after USD 8 blue tick subscription service on Twitter will be reactivated on November 29 with verification, days after the microblogging platform temporarily banned it due to an abundance of bogus accounts. Before Musk took over Twitter on October 27, the blue tick was awarded to public figures, elected officials, and other celebrities once the platform had verified their accounts.
A move to keep advertisers and increase revenue was the USD 8 subscription charge that was announced on November 6. However, the action resulted in an increase in fake accounts, which forced Twitter to temporarily suspend the service. Musk tweeted on Tuesday, "Punting relaunch of Blue Verified until November 29th to make sure that it is rock solid." The blue check will be lost if someone changes their verified name with the new update "until the name is confirmed by Twitter to fit terms of service," according to Musk.
Musk said he would restart the blue tick subscription service last week. The three weeks since Musk closed the USD 44 billion agreement to buy Twitter have been tumultuous for him. Since taking control, Musk has let go nearly half of the workers of the well-known microblogging site, including its CEO Parag Agrawal, and even discussed the possibility of the business going bankrupt.
