PM Applauded the People of Meghalaya for their Contribution to the Development of India; Statehood Day
On the Golden Jubilee of the Statehood Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a virtual speech to the people of Meghalaya. He congratulated each and every inhabitant of the state and praised the contributions of those who fought for a separate state 50 years ago. He claimed that he had visited Meghalaya several times and that when he was elected Prime Minister of India, he was in Shillong to attend the North Eastern Council Meeting, and that he treasured those memories.
He claimed that the people of Meghalaya live in such close proximity to nature. Meghalaya’s natural beauty is tremendous, with stunning waterfalls, the cleanest atmosphere, and abundant natural beauty attracting visitors from all over the world.
Meghalaya has sent a message to the entire globe about nature and progress, conservation, and environmental sustainability. He commended the inhabitants of the state, particularly the Khasis, Garo, and Jaintia ethnic groups. He commended the residents of “Kongthon,” a whistling village, and noted that the community’s culture remained true to our roots.
He lauded Meghalaya’s youths’ talent in the fields of art, culture, and sports.
He praised the Shillong Chamber Choir and young athletes who had achieved renown not just in the state but also abroad.
He praised organic farmers and the Lakadong Turmeric, dubbed the “Golden Spice” by him. Meghalayan-made goods are sold in both domestic and international markets, he stated.
Conrad Sangma’s contribution to the state’s development was also lauded by him.
