The makers of Covishield and Covaxin, the Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech, cut per dosage prices of their vaccines for private hospitals a day before ‘precautionary’ Covid vaccine doses were to be made available to everyone over the age of 18. Both will now set you back Rs.225 per dose. Previously, Covishield was Rs.600 per dose and Covaxin was Rs.1,200 per dose.
“We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the central government, SII has decided to revise the price of COVISHIELD vaccine for private hospitals from ₹600 to ₹225 per dose. We once again commend this decision from the Centre to open precautionary dose to all 18+,” Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla tweeted.
Bharat Biotech co-founder Suchitra Ella said soon after that the price of Covaxin for private hospitals had been reduced to 225 per dose, down from 1,200 per dose previously.
