Amid the murder of a 21-year-old woman named Rabiya Saifi, a resident of Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, was reportedly gang-raped and murdered in Haryana’s Faridabad, thousands of netizens took to social media demanding justice for her.
The woman, a civil defence officer, was reportedly picked up when she was returning from work in Lajpat Nagar, and her body was dumped after being gang-raped and murdered.
A man, Nizamuddin who claimed to be the woman’s husband, surrendered at Kalindi Kunj police station, taking responsibility for the gruesome act.
The man said that he was suspicious of her character and hence murdered her.
The Faridabad police of the crime undertook a search operation on Friday after being alerted by Delhi police and retrieved the body from the bushes. The accused has been taken into custody.
The accused reportedly claimed that the two got married at a court in June, but he failed to produce any proof of marriage. He told the police that he brought the victim to a deserted place around Surajkund Pali road on the bike on Thursday, where he murdered her and dumped her body.
The parents of the victim however claimed that they were not aware of the marriage, but admitted that the accused had helped their daughter to secure a job, and they shared a close relationship since then.
Later, an Aam Aadmi Party minister also met with the victim’s family and assured swift justice and support.
However, netizens took to Twitter demanding the justice of the woman over the barbaric incident, over 70k tweets flooded the social media. Since September 4, #JusticeForRabiya has been trending on the platform.
Twitterati believes that there is much more to this murder case and investigation reaching the root cause should be initiated as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, demanding justice socio-political activists from across the country have been tweeting about the issue asking the authorities to investigate further into the matter and find the real culprit behind the murder.
Students of Aligarh Muslim University also staged protests seeking justice for the girl and her family.
