According to authorities, a senior government official in Assam was apprehended while reportedly accepting a bribe.
They claimed that on Friday night, Kisan Kumar Sharma, the joint secretary of the Home and Political Department, was detained while taking payments for the extension of a security firm's licence.
He was detained by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC) division of the Assam Police.
Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Special Director-General of Police (V&AC), tweeted, "In a late evening Ops, @DIR VAC ASSAM trapped red handed and arrested Sri KK Sharma, ACS Joint Secretary to Govt of Assam after taking INR 90k from complainant for renewal of security firm licence."Singh stated that additional searches of his home resulted in the recovery of Rs 49.24 lakh in cash.
Sharma is a member of the Assam Civil Services (ACS).
