Shillong rally violence: Four more arrested in Meghalaya
Four people have been detained for allegedly participating in destruction and violence at a rally against unemployment that was held in Shillong last week.
According to police, four people have been detained for allegedly participating in destruction and violence at a rally against unemployment that was held in Shillong last week organised by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) . With the latest arrests, there have now been five people detained as a result of the incident. Prior to this incident, one person was detained in relation to the violence.
On Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, there were raids that resulted in the arrests. In relation to three assaults and acts of vandalism that happened on October 28, authorities stated, they will be presented before a court.
Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister, has examined the law-and-order situation in the wake of the rally violence that left three persons hurt and numerous vehicles destroyed.
He claimed that when permission is given for the hosting of such programmes, the organisers are required to respect the law and bear some responsibility.
The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), the organisation that organised the protest, has received a show-cause notice from the East Khasi Hills district administration, which holds the group's leaders accountable for violating the guidelines established for conducting the rally.
