António Guterres, the head of the UN, said on Tuesday that South Asia is one of the world’s top hotspots for the climate issue while expressing concern over the floods in Pakistan, which have claimed more than 1,000 lives since June. Millions have been impacted in the nation, where “every province” has been impacted, according to the UN chief.
People living in these (climate crisis) hotspots are 15 times more likely to die from climate consequences, the UN head warned in a statement.
“It is outrageous that climate action is being put on the back burner as green house gas emissions are still rising, placing all of us – everywhere – in growing risk,” Guterres continued. “As we continue to see more and more extreme weather occurrences around the world.”
