A court in Telangana’s Jogulamba-Gadwal district has sentenced a serial killer to life in prison for the murders of 17 women.
In one of the murder instances, Yerukali Srinu (47), who used to target women after befriending them at toddy stores, received the sentence. For the murder of Chitti Alivelamma (53), the Third Additional District Magistrate found him guilty and sentenced him to life in prison on Thursday.
In the case of Alivelamma’s murder, the serial killer was apprehended in 2019. In the last decade, he has slain 16 other women, according to the investigations. Salamma, Srinu’s wife, was also arrested for stocking the stolen goods.
Srinu, who was addicted to alcohol, would befriend ladies who came to toddy shops to drink, take them out to remote locations under the guise of a picnic, and then kill them and decamp with their gold and silver jewellery.
When police cracked the murder case of Alivelamma, whose body was discovered on December 17, 2019 near a village in Mahabubnagar district, Srinu, who had also murdered his own brother, was eventually apprehended.
