Trinamool President Mamta Banarjee’s offer to Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi

The founder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mamta Banarjee is planning to set its sight in Assam beside Tripura to enhance the political presence of the party to other states of the country besides Bengal.

Raijor Dal president and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi said that he was invited by the Chief Minister of West Bengal to Kolkatta after he was released from the Jail. The Chief Minister also offered the leading Anti- CAA activists and the founder of Raijor Dal to be Assam units Chief and merge his party with her party.

Mr. Gogoi on Wednesday in an interview said, “I have visited Kolkata twice since and met her. The TMC wants me to become the president of its Assam unit. We have not given any commitment, but our party is constantly trying to be part of an Opposition front against the BJP for future elections.”

He also added, “As a regional party (Raijor Dal) we want to coordinate with other regional parties who are trying to come together”.

However, the Raijor Dal president has yet to decide on the offer.

Akhil Gogoi is opposed to both BJP and RSS,  “There is an undeclared emergency in India at present under Modi government. So the opposition parties are trying to unite themselves like they had done after the emergency in 1975. Being a responsible and committed regional party, Raijor Dal wants to be part of that opposition front and fight together to save democracy and the democratic values of our nation,” he said.

The CAA activists favoured the Trinamool president, “Yes we support her because we are also against this. I was in jail for 19 months. We are the on-street against the CAA, and there we will get Mamta di’s support”, he added while addressing a news channel.

The Trinamool has also kept an eye on Tripura where Assembly elections would be held in 2023.
