Tripura to get its first film institute under SRFTI

According to state minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Tripura will soon have its own film school operating under the auspices of Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). As soon as the SRFTI’s governing council gives its approval, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be inked between the state government and the organisation with its headquarters in Kolkata. If everything goes according to plan, the institute at Nazrul Kalashetra will be opened on October 31.

The students will initially have access to four certificate programmes, including Film Appreciation, Screen Acting, Production Management for Cinema and Television, and Anchoring/News Reading, according to the state minister of information and cultural affairs (ICA).

“We had a detailed discussion with the director, registrar and technical persons of SRFTI in Kolkata over the opening a film institute in Tripura. They gave given a go-ahead for the courses,” Chowdhury said at a press conference.

The project has received funding from the state government in the amount of Rs 5.75 crore, and the PWD department is completing the essential renovations to Nazrul Kalashetra.
According to the minister, the new institute’s academic programmes should start in November.
He expressed his hope that the new institute will provide additional chances for young people, saying that those who are interested in a career in film and related industries will gain greatly from it.
