UAE President died, country begins 40-days mourning

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President and ruler of Abu Dhabi, died on Friday, according to local media citing the Ministry of Presidential Affairs.

“The Ministry of Presidential Affairs expresses its condolences to the people of the United Arab Emirates, the Arab and Islamic nations, and the entire globe on the passing of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates,” according to a WAM statement.

Since November 3, 2004, Sheikh Khalifa has served as President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi.

According to the Khaleej Times, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs has declared 40 days of mourning following the death of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

Starting today, flags will be flown at half-mast, and ministries, departments, federal, and local institutions will be closed.
