A sergeant in the Indian Air Force (IAF) was detained by the Delhi Police on espionage charges after allegedly leaking sensitive information concerning defense installations.
A woman on social internet honey-trapped the arrested Sergeant, Devendra Kumar Sharma, a Kanpur native.
Sharma was detained by the Crime Branch on May 6 while working as an Administrative Assistant (GD) at the Air Force Record Office at Subroto Park, New Delhi.

According to authorities, the sergeant was arrested on May 6 for allegedly leaking critical information to a “agent of adversarial country” over WhatsApp after deceitfully acquiring information and documents from computers and other files. Sharma allegedly received money from the agent in exchange for the disclosed information, according to authorities.
According to them, a case under the Official Secrets Act was filed after the Indian Air Force received a complaint, and the sergeant was arrested on May 6 and discharged from duty. Incriminating evidence, such as electronic devices and documents, were taken during the investigation, they said, adding that the case is still being investigated.
