On Saturday, the Manjalpur police in Vadodara arrested a person for reportedly running over a family of street dwellers in the city’s Makarpura GIDC neighborhood, killing a five-year-old and injuring two others. Ramesh Vankar, a Padra resident, has been charged with a culpable homicide that does not amount to murder, as well as hasty and careless driving.
The collision happened late Friday evening, according to police. According to them, the collision injured a woman sitting on a cot near the road, as well as an eight-year-old child.
Kamlesh Vasuniya, the victim’s father, is from Dahod and works as a daily wage laborer in Vadodara. Vasuniya’s sister Lalita paid them a visit on Friday evening, and the family sat on the roadside. The perpetrator was allegedly speeding when his truck slammed into Lalita’s cot. Lalita and the older child are receiving treatment at SSG Hospital, where Arpit, who is five years old, was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Locals apprehended the accused after the accident and handed him over to the Manjalpur police station, which is across the road from the accident scene.
