VIDEO: Man points gun at Argentina’s vice president in an attempt to kill her

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, vice president of Argentina, escaped an attempted murder on Thursday night after a man pointed a gun at her face-inching distance in a video that is becoming viral online. Fortunately for Fernández, the pistol malfunctioned, allowing security personnel to quickly overwhelm and arrest the would-be assassin. The vice president did not appear to have any injuries in the web videos that were made accessible.

When a black handgun is thrust in her face and the trigger is pulled, the footage shows Hernández Fernández grinning and addressing fans on the side of a road.

Before receiving assistance to get to her feet, Fernández flinches and collapses to the ground in astonishment. The face of the intended murderer is hidden.

The gun was loaded but “didn’t shoot even though trigger was squeezed,” according to President Alberto Fernández. The attempted murder was described by President Fernández as “the most dangerous occurrence since we won democracy” in 1983, following a military rule.
