Vijender Singh is back on the winning track in pro boxing after knocking out Ghana’s Eliasu
On Wednesday, renowned Indian boxer Vijender Singh defeated Ghana’s Eliasu Sulley via knockout to get back on the winning track. Vijender, who won the first boxing medals for India at the Olympics and the men’s world championships, displayed his talent by outclassing Sulley.
The 36-year-old bronze medalist from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing defeated the Ghanian, who had a perfect knockout record up until that point, in just five minutes and seven seconds.
It is his pro boxer’s 13th victory. His lone defeat on the professional level occurred in March of last year when he lost to Russia’s Artysh Lopsan.
Eliasu Sulley suffered his first loss after eight straight victories, giving Vijender a 13-1 pro boxing record. Vijender put on a commanding performance, only needing two rounds of the six-round fight to win again.
In the second round, with Sulley’s back to the ropes, Vijender delivered a stunning hook that forced the referee to call time on the fight.
“Yes, my team is by my side. I’m happy to be back. After two years, it’s a victory. We had a lot going on, including Covid-19, among other things. However, it’s good to be back and to have a winning season debut “Vijender stated in a Wednesday interview on The Ring.
“People think it’s easy but it’s not. You can ask my coaches,” he added.
Vijender had been training in Manchester in the lead-up to the bout in Raipur against Sulley. Meanwhile, the next fight, according to Vijender, could take place in December 2022 or January 2023.
