Vinod Kambli, a former cricketer for India, stated that he is looking for work in the cricket industry because his pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India is his only source of income.
The post-Covid world has hit the 50-year-old Kambli, who last managed a team in the 2019 T20 Mumbai League, as he only receives INR 30,000 from the BCCI. At the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy in Nerul, Kambli used to coach young cricket players. The retired cricketer finds it too far to travel to Nerul.
“I am a retired cricket player who is totally reliant on the BCCI pension. I am extremely appreciative and thankful that the Board is currently my only source of payment (income). It provides for my family.”
“I was asking the MCA for assistance (Mumbai Cricket Association). I joined the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), but it was a volunteer position. I sought assistance from the MCA. I need to take care of my family. I repeatedly assured the MCA that I would be available, whether it was at the Wankhede Stadium or the BKC. I’ve benefited greatly from Mumbai cricket. This game is what saved my life. There will be no more cricket for you after retirement. But having responsibilities is essential if you want to maintain stability in your life. That is what I’m looking for from the MCA. I can only ask the MCA secretary or president for an assignment.”
If Indian batting legend and childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar is aware of this financial situation, Kambli responded: “Sachin knows everything, but I don’t expect anything from him. He gave me the assignment for the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy. I was overjoyed. He’s been a great friend. He has always stood by my side.” Kambli stated.
