In a thrilling 5-set Australian Open men’s singles final last night, the Spaniard upset World No. 2, Daniil Medvedev. Nadal came back from a two-set deficit to win 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne after a tense five-hour and 24-minute contest. Since winning the French Open in 2020, this was his first Grand Slam major.
Nadal is now one step above the other two big men in tennis, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who both have 20 Grand Slam championships between them. Nadal, 35, has become the third-oldest man to win a Grand Slam trophy in Open era history. The first two were Ken Rosewall and Roger Federer. He is also the only man to have won each of the four Grand Slams at least twice.
