This season's first winter chills have hit the NCR, with a low of less than 10 degrees Celsius. The cold northwesterly winds blowing toward Delhi from the snow-covered mountains were the cause of the temperature drop, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) authorities. IMD scientist RK Jenamani noted the clear sky in addition to the cool northwesterly winds. Since no strong western disturbance is predicted over the next few days, the temperature will remain in the 9 to 11 degree range. According to Jenamani, the temperature is expected to drop even further starting on November 21.

The temperature dipped to 8.9 degrees Celsius on Monday morning in Delhi, making it the coldest start of the season thus far. The air quality also remained "extremely poor." The season's low temperature on Monday was lower than the weekend's low of 9 degrees Celsius. The air quality index (AQI) on Monday at 9:10 a.m. was 316.

The nightly low in Delhi could be 10 for the following several days. Many portions of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh may see weather similar to a cold wave.
