With a narrow margin, Republicans gain control of the US House

Republicans regained control of the US House, but by a much smaller margin than they had anticipated, which was a big letdown for a party that had been hoping for weeks for a decisive win that would set the stage for the 2024 presidential election.

The party won the 218 seats required to take control of the legislature more than a week after election day, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday night. However, some seats were still uncalled.

Voters divided on who was to blame and how much importance to give to other issues, such as abortion rights and threats to democracy, in the Nov. 8 midterm elections. This was despite concerns about President Joe Biden's handling of the economy and the likelihood that the country would enter a recession.

Even still, the slim majority gives the GOP control over House investigative committees with the ability to subpoena witnesses and conduct investigations into Biden's cabinet, his relatives, and Silicon Valley companies that conservatives have argued are prejudiced against them.
