An emergency response organisation reported that over a dozen people were gravely hurt when an aircraft to Hawaii was severely disrupted on Sunday about 30 minutes outside of Honolulu. According to a statement from Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, nine additional people were in stable condition while 11 people were hospitalised in serious condition. It stated that a call regarding the injuries aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix arrived shortly after 11 a.m. Twenty of the 36 patients who were treated by the emergency personnel had to be evacuated for additional medical care.
A major head injury, lacerations, bruising, and loss of consciousness were listed as part of the injuries in the statement. According to traveller Kaylee Reyes of Hawaii News Now, her mother was not able to fasten her safety belt because she had just sat down when the turbulence struck. Reyes said, "She soared up and hit the roof.
