On arrival at Amritsar airport, 125 passengers on an international chartered flight from Italy tested positive for Covid-19.
The chartered flight from Milan, which arrived in Amritsar about 1.30 p.m., had 179 passengers, including 19 children. Officials said the plane came to a mechanical halt in Tbilisi, Georgia. EuroAtlantic Airways, a Portuguese business, was said to be in charge of the flight.
According to the Union Health Ministry, Italy is one of the high-risk countries for Omicron, so all adult travellers were tested upon arrival.
Passengers who test positive for Covid will be transported to an institution for quarantine according to officials.
