50 cases of Covid-19 detected in IIT-Guwahati

Over 50 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in IIT-Guwahati in the last six days, including students and a staff member, prompting the authorities to put restrictions on the campus, according to an official. According to Parmeshwar Iyer, Dean-PR, IIT-Guwahati, about 99 percent of the cases were people returning to campus after vacations outside of Assam. “Since December 31, there have been over 50 cases of COVID-19 discovered on campus.

A professor and five members of his family, as well as another member of staff, are among them. Students make up the remaining group. All of the patients, with the exception of the faculty member and his family, are staying at the institute’s guest house on campus’ quarantine centre, according to Iyer.

“They preferred to be hospitalised because the faculty member’s parents, mother-in-law, and small son all tested positive. They are being treated at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital at the moment “he stated

Mr. Iyer added that restrictions have been implemented in the hostels, making it obligatory for students to obtain permission before leaving. However, no new students will be allowed to enter the college premises.
