The mixed pairs gold in lawn bowls for Scotland on Friday made 75 years and eight months old George Miller the oldest competitor to take home a medal at the Commonwealth Games. Scotland defeated Wales 16-9 to win the gold medal in the para mixed pairs B2/B3 event at Victoria Park kudos to the team of lead Melanie Innes, her director Miller, and skip director Sarah Jane.
Miller, who took the place of colleague Rosemary Lenton as the oldest gold medal winner in Commonwealth Games history, stated, “I think Rosemary is quite happy” Miller stated.
Regarding his advice for senior citizens considering participating in the sport: “For older players, bowls is very simple, but any sport—walking, football, rugby—you name it—gets the body moving and the mind engaged. No matter your age, competing is wonderful “he stated.
