In a significant decision just two days before the IPL 2022, and a major heartbreak for Dhoni supporters, Dhoni has announced his retirement.
MS Dhoni has stepped down as captain of Chennai Super Kings, handing over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja, in a momentous decision just two days before the IPL 2022, and a major disappointment for Dhoni supporters. On Saturday, the left-handed all-rounder will lead the reigning champions CSK against Kolkata Knight Riders in their season opener.
“MS Dhoni has opted to hand over the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings to Ravindra Jadeja. Since 2012, Jadeja has been a vital component of the Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni will continue to play for Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond, according to reports “CSK said in a statement.
Dhoni’s departure from Chennai signalled the end of an era for the franchise, as the wicketkeeper-batsman led the CSK to four IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021), as well as two titles in the now-defunct Champions League Twenty20 (2010 and 2014).
“It’s been a pleasure, MS Dhoni (C),” tweeted the official handle of Rajasthan Royals.
Virat Kholi says a heartfelt farewell to the champion. Virat writes, a legendary captaincy spell in yellow will go down in history as an era that fans will never forget.
Fans show their admiration for their all-time captain, who will live on in their hearts even though he is no longer on the field.
