A Petrol Indian Army Recovered The Mortal Remains Of A Soldier LNk Chandra Shekar
The Northern command of the Indian Army said that they had recovered the mortal remains of a soldier from Uttarakhand’s Haldwani, Lance Naik (LNk) (Late) Chander Shekhar who was missing since 29 May 1984, when he had been deployed for Operation Meghdoot to Gyanogla Glacier in Siachen.
Petrol of the Indian Army found the identification disk bearing his Army number which was entangled along with the mortal remains which helped them identify the body. The mortal remains will be handed over to the family shortly.
Lance Naik Chandra Shekhar, who was from the 19 Kumaon Battalion, had taken part in India’s audacious Operation Meghdhoot in the Siachen in 1984. He had been deployed for Operation Meghdoot to Gyanogla Glacier in Siachen but he went missing after he was engulfed in Avalanche.
The mortal remains of Chandra Shekhar were discovered in an abandoned bunker in the glacier on August 13, according to reports.
A day later mortal remains were found on August 14 the wife of Chandra Shekhar has been informed about the recovery by the officials from the army’s 19 Kumaon Regiment, reports said.
The family is expected to get the remains on Tuesday 16 August. After which, the final rites of Chandra Shekhar will be performed at Haldwani in Uttarakhand in the presence of his wife and two daughters. Besides the family, numerous other veterans from his unit and relatives will also be present.
