An Aquila Restaurant in Delhi denied the entry of a woman wearing a saree. A woman who was denied entry from the restaurant because she was wearing a saree, the restaurant employee stopped her saying they only allow smart casuals.
It is indeed an insult of the Indian Culture
“Denied entry as ethnic wear is not allowed! A restaurant in India allows ‘smart casuals’ but not Indian wear! Whatever happened to pride in being Indian?.
Saree, considered as one of the traditional Indian Ethnic wear has been worn throughout the country, wearing a saree also preserves the Indian culture.
The video went viral across social media platforms as the restaurant was slammed for its dress code policy, wherein the lady is seen asking the staff about its bizarre dress code rule. Many called it ironic that in India, Indian clothes were not allowed.
Another frustrated lady Shefali Vaidya took to social media when she expressed her displeasure over the incident, she said she have worn sarees at the best restaurants in the US, UAE as well in the UK. No-one stopped her. And some Aquila Restaurant dictates a dress code in India and decides the saree is not ‘smart enough.
Western forms of clothing are now an integral part of the lifestyle of most women however the ethnic attire can never be replaced. If the US, UK, and other countries can accept wearing saree at their restaurants then why not India, when they should be proud of ladies coming to their restaurants wearing saree.
