Karnataka: Tourists drive cars on Shivapura hanging bridge, locals confront

A car was spotted Tuesday driving through Karnataka's Shivapura hanging bridge in the Uttara Kannada district, only days after the Morbi disaster. As the car's high weight could harm the bridge, the locals confronted the driver and the visitors inside and forced them to stop.
In a widely shared video, a Maruti Suzuki 800 with a Maharashtra registration number entered the popular coastal Karnataka tourist attraction of Shivapura hanging bridge. Locals were on the scene right away and told the tourists to leave the bridge. Two men were spotted pushing the automobile backward and removing it from the hanging bridge as it was being struck on the bridge.

Nivedith Alva, a spokesperson for the Karnataka Congress, requested earlier that the state government conduct a preventative safety inspection of all hanging bridges around the state. Additionally, he encouraged the authorities to pay special attention to the hanging bridges in the coastal Karnataka region, which is known for having high rainfall all year long.
A cable bridge in Morbi, Gujarat, fell on Sunday, prompting the appeal. This terrible disaster has claimed the lives of almost 130 people. The managers of the for-profit contractor Oreva Group, as well as ticket takers and security guards, were among the nine people the Gujarat police detained.
